DIY Wednesday: Paper Ornamnets

Okay well I’m a slacker and didn’t take pictures while making these since I was employing the use of my super “helpful” 2 year old. When 2 year olds and blades are present, there’s little time for capturing each step.

Gather your supplies:

  • Paper of any kind- I employed an old book for mine but colorful scrapbook paper can mean that your ornaments can coordinate with any of your other christmas decorations.
  • scissors/paper cutter
  • eyelet punch / pin to poke a hole into your paper
  • eyelets or brads
  • string for hanging your ornament
Step 1: Start by cutting your paper, you will need the following quantities for each ornament:
1- 1″ x 4″
2- 1″ x 5″
2- 1″ x 6″
Step 2:Gather your pieces with your 6″ section on the outside the 5″ sections between them and your 4″ section sandwiched smack dab in the middle.
Step 3: With the 5 strips of paper gathered, and their bottoms all aligned, punch a hole through all five pages about 1/4 to 1/3″ from the bottom and secure with an eyelet.
Step 4: Now gather the opposite edges of each paper, fanning out the longer pieces of paper so that the pages will all line up with each other. Punch another hole through all 5 pages and secure with an eyelet 1/4 to 1/3″ from bottom.
After a while I decided to pre-punch all my holes so that I didn’t accidentally bend or crease the paper but that was because I was making several and wanted to streamline the process. Thank you Henry Ford for the idea!
Step 5: After you’ve secured both ends with an eyelet, thread a string through the hole on whatever end you’ve decided is the top and tie a knot at the top of your string.
Step 6: Deck the Halls, Trim the Tree, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas, all that jazz. Enjoy your new SUPER CUTE and SUPER CHEAP ornaments!
